MODJADJI

Modjadji’ is a bilingual play directed by Carla Fonseca in collaboration with co-director Mandla Mbothwe; actors Iman Isaacs, Indalo Stifle, TJ Ngoma and Asia McDonald; as well as music composer Nthato Mokgata.

The play is inspired by the the Rain Queen that has formed a fundamental part of South African culture, history and mythology. Modjadji, is the living reincarnation of the rain goddess who has survived countless transformations, to this day. This show is a poetic and poignant story of a generation in the face of crisis/drought in need of transformation/water. The story highlights various characters in a time of a bad dry spell. A time when replenishment and justice is out of reach.
